Acrylic and graphite on canvas
2020
With this work, the artist has combined several techniques and process steps from her previous work. As a background, liquid acrylic paint was sprayed onto the canvas and allowed to run into one another. The canvas was rotated several times so that the colors are always distributed differently and completely fill the area. The background is partially dried before pasty yellow acrylic paint is applied with a bold brush. Because parts of the surface are still damp, the yellow color mixes with the magenta and results in a dark, full orange. The result appeared to the artist to be too sweet and flat, so a neutral beige and grey was mixed and applied flat, which somewhat suppresses both the bright magenta and the strong yellow. In addition, strong black lines and scratches are drawn with a water-soluble graphite pencil, creating even more movement and tension.
